Tips from Anna at ABS – Stick with it
Are you one of those “James Cooks” of the online world?
I’m one of those people who’s out there, exploring the internet, looking for new applications that will rock my world and change it forever with their fantastic (AND FREE!!) features. I’ll sign up to just about anything and try it out.
To me, ‘beta’ just means ‘it’ll get better’!
Sometimes, I seem to waste a lot of valuable time on products headed in a direction that’s wayyy different to where I would like them to go. But then, sometimes, a product will reveal itself to be an ugly duckling that is becoming a beautiful swan….But I wouldn’t have known this nor could I have taken advantage of their new features if I hadn’t stuck with them.
So, here’s the thing, have you ever signed up online for a new application?
Something that’s cloud based that you think is going to solve a problem in your business and when you’ve looked into that application and really dug into it, you’ve found that that is not going to do what you want it to do.
Well, here’s a tip for you – don’t delete your account.
Honestly, I would say to you stick with it. Even if you don’t go back to it for a couple of months. Just leave it, come back to it, you may find that the application has improved and is moving down the road towards what you need.
Quite often, I’ve signed up for online accounts and it’s been the ‘next greatest thing”. But then suddenly, it’s just not quite there yet and I find myself thinking, “oh, just another account to keep track of or another password”.
But some of them I’ve stuck with and I’m really pleased that I did, because when you sign up as a new user, quite often, if it’s in beta, you’ll get access to features that users who sign up later won’t get access to.
Most of the cloud applications respect their beta users and they will leave those features in place for you because you were an original sign up. It’s happened for me with a couple of applications that I’ve signed up with in their early days and I’m still benefiting from those features that I was allowed to have as a beta user.
So, my tip today is when you sign up, stick with it, don’t delete your user account and hang in there because you might be on to your next big thing.
